the brief
BYM acquired Treaty Centre in Q4 2021 from Columbia Threadneedle. The 330,000 sq ft centre comprises 51 retail units and 3 office units. It originally opened in 1986 and was subject to major refurbishments in both 2014 and 2017. The centre is anchored by Wilko, Poundland, JD Sports and the Department for Work and Pensions and it boasts a substantial food-court. It benefits from an annual footfall of 10 million people. The centre has an adjoining 645 space multistorey car park providing the largest parking provision in the town centre.
The Treaty Kitchen food-court comprises seven units. It sits on the first floor above the main atrium and incorporates a central seating area providing 380 covers. It is a key footfall driver. The first floor also provides an additional entrance to the demised council premises, with further access to the library, theater and serviced office space.
management approach
The Centre provides for an interesting opportunity for possible re-purpose and BYM will be exploring these avenues.
